Oregon Tech Civil Engineering students compete at regional steel bridge events

Oregon Tech Civil Engineering students participated in the American Society of Civil Engineers Pacific Northwest Student Symposium held April 4 in Portland. Student-led teams competed in the Concrete Canoe and Steel Bridge Competitions against teams from universities in Oregon, Washington, Montana, Idaho, and Alaska.

Oregon Tech students awarded $19,500 at Catalyze Klamath; winning teams highlight downhill skiing and sustainable golf tees

Eight entrepreneurial student teams from Oregon Tech competed April 24 at the 10th annual Catalyze Klamath Challenge for $19,500 in seed money to turn their product ideas and prototypes into real businesses. The winning concepts are Southern Cascades Resort, a business plan for downhill skiing in Klamath Falls, and ReTee Golf, a sustainable golf tee.

Oregon Tech student Cruz Collin receives $50k grant for sustainable energy system testing

Oregon Tech is proud to announce that Renewable Energy Engineering and Honors Program student Cruz Tecumseh Collin is launching the next phase of a sustainable energy initiative. The original project was started with a 2023 DreamStarter grant for $20,000 from Running Strong for American Indian Youth. The new grant comes with a $50,000 award to build a sustainable energy generation system that utilizes over 99% natural materials in its design.

Oregon Tech students pass Certified SolidWorks Associate exam

Eighteen students at Oregon Tech recently passed the Certified SolidWorks Associate (CSWA) exam for Mechanical Design with nine students scoring above 90%. The CSWA exam is considered one of the hardest Mechanical Engineering Certificate exams available; the worldwide passing rate for this exam is around 64%, and the success rate for Oregon Tech students is around 89%.

Radiologic Science students participate in radiologic technology conference

Three faculty and three senior students from Oregon Tech's Medical Imaging Technology programs attended the 50th-anniversary Association of Collegiate Educators in Radiologic Technology (ACERT) conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the beginning of February. The event brought together over 850 attendees, including 568 students, to advocate for and advance the medical imaging profession. Two Oregon Tech faculty members and one student presented at the national conference, sharing insights with medical imaging faculty and students from across the country.

The Oregon Tech Honors Program proudly welcomed 21 students during its Induction Ceremony Oct. 12. The Oregon Tech Honors Program is a prestigious academic program designed for high-achieving students from diverse academic majors. This specialized program offers an interdisciplinary education that equips future leaders and professionals with the skills and knowledge to excel in their careers and lead meaningful lives. The Honors Program complements the regular academic curriculum with various extracurricular learning experiences, emphasizing the development of well-rounded professionals, socially responsible individuals, and well-educated students.

Nuclear Medicine student chosen for national leadership academy

Oregon Tech Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Technology senior Ezekiel "Zeke" Gillette recently attended the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Technologist Section (SNMMI-TS) Future Leaders Academy, which focused on developing a clear plan for increasing the leadership abilities of nuclear medicine and molecular imaging professionals.

Oregon Tech students and faculty travel to Northern Europe for hands-on learning experience

Oregon Tech faculty and students recently returned from a study abroad trip to Finland, Estonia, Sweden, and Iceland, which took place from Aug. 24 to Sept. 16. The trip brought together 25 students from 10 different majors to study international business, culture, and sustainability. The trip was part of a Spring Term program called Experience Business Abroad and International Study Experience in Ecology/Sustainability.

Oregon Tech Dental Hygiene sophomore Megan Nelson traveled to Washington, D.C. June 2-15 to participate in the American Red Cross Collegiate Leadership Program. The program allows students to develop leadership skills and inspire a new generation of volunteers by organizing blood drives for their classmates and community.

The Oregon Tech Alpha Epsilon Delta (AED) honors society proudly welcomed ten students during its 2023-24 induction ceremony on Dec. 2. AED is a national honor society for preprofessional health college students, and the Oregon Tech chapter is the only AED chapter in Oregon.

TOP students celebrated for high academic achievements

A special Oregon Tech event was held May 10 to celebrate nontraditional students' academic success in the Tech Opportunities Program (TOP). The event honored over 100 students with a 3.30 grade point average or above in fall or winter terms. Oregon Tech TOP is a federally funded TRiO college opportunity program that powers the potential of first-generation students, low-income students, and students with disabilities who demonstrate academic need. In 2023-24, 160 students participated in TOP.
